1. Englishphew; whew: An exclamation that comes with a loud, long sigh, uttered when one feels tired or worried.

   일이 힘들거나 걱정이 있을 때 크고 길게 내쉬는 소리.

   • 지수는 숨이 차는지 가면서 계속 ‘후유’ 하고 한숨을 내쉬었다.
   • 한참을 힘들게 걸어 목적지에 도착하자 ‘후유’ 하는 소리가 절로 나왔다.

   어려운 일을 끝내거나 고비를 넘겼을 때 안심하여 크고 길게 내쉬는 소리.

   • 나는 지수가 살아 있다는 안도감에 ‘후유’ 하고 한숨을 돌렸다.
