Englishstairs; staircase: A structure consisting of a series of parallel rungs arranged diagonally, used for climbing up or down between two levels of a building.
걸어서 층 사이를 오르내릴 수 있도록 작은 단들을 비스듬하게 차례로 이어 놓은 시설.
- 나무 층계가 오래되어서 밟고 올라갈 때마다 삐걱삐걱 소리가 났다.
- 엘리베이터가 고장이 나서 일 층부터 삼 층의 사무실까지 층계로 오르내렸다.
- 높은 층계.
