1. Englishquartering; hacking a criminal to pieces: (archaic) A punishment for high treason, which tears the criminal's head, body, arms, and legs apart to death.

   (옛날에) 대역죄를 진 죄인의 머리, 몸통, 팔, 다리를 찢어 죽이는 형벌.

   • 왕을 죽이려고 했던 죄인은 결국 능지처참을 당했다.
